At Legacy Online Middle and High School, a conventional A-F grading system is
utilized, and instructors determine mid-course and final grades according to the
following criteria:
A - Approximate average of 90-100%
The student has effectively demonstrated an exceptional
understanding of all course outcomes, with all coursework
completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
B - Approximate average of 80-89%
The student has effectively demonstrated a solid understanding
of all course outcomes, with all coursework completed at a
commendable level of quality and typically in a timely manner.
C - Approximate average of 70-79%
The student has demonstrated an acceptable understanding of
most course outcomes, with all coursework completed
reasonably promptly.
D - Approximate average of 60-69%
The student has shown some understanding of the most critical
course outcomes, with all major coursework successfully
completed.
P - 60-100%
This indicates that the student has met the requirements
necessary to pass the course, without holding any specific grade
value.
F - Approximate average of below 59%
The student has not demonstrated sufficient learning to earn
credit for the course, and their work consistently fell short in
terms of quality.
IN - Incomplete
This is assigned when major coursework remains unfinished, and
the final grade is withheld until the required coursework is
completed and submitted, with a temporary F initially assigned.
W - Withdrawn
This grade is given when a student officially withdraws from the
class within one month after the last engagement, with a final F
assigned if two months pass since the last engagement.
Course Weighting and GPA Calculation
At Legacy Online School, student GPAs are calculated based on the weight assigned
to each course level. The grading scale follows standard weighting practices to reflect
the rigor of the coursework.
GPA Weighting Scale:
- Regular Courses: Unweighted (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0)
- Honors Courses: Receive an additional 0.5 weight (A = 4.5, B = 3.5, C = 2.5, D = 1.5, F = 0.0)
- AP, IB, AICE, and Dual Enrollment Courses: Receive an additional 1.0 weight
(A = 5.0, B = 4.0, C = 3.0, D = 2.0, F = 0.0)
This weighting system ensures that students who take more challenging courses
receive appropriate recognition for their efforts when calculating their GPA. Parents
and students should consider these weight differences when selecting courses, as
they may impact class rank, eligibility for scholarships, and college admissions.
For any questions regarding course selection and GPA calculations, families may
consult with the Learning Support Specialist (LSS) team.
