Graduation Requirements

At Legacy Online School, students face specific graduation requirements that mirror

those found in traditional brick-and-mortar institutions. In public school settings,

students often attend gatherings discussing these standard prerequisites, or they

receive visits from guidance counselors in their classrooms to assist them in

registering for the necessary credits.

At LOS, your Learning Support specialist ensures your compliance with these criteria,

and our enrollment team meticulously tracks your credit progression toward

graduation. There are four critical areas that students need to understand as they

work toward their graduation goals:

  • Core Courses
  • Elective Courses
  • Minimum Grade Standards

Core Courses

To meet the graduation requirements at Legacy Online School, students must

accumulate a set number of credits in each essential subject area. These core

subjects encompass mathematics, science, social studies, and English. The specific

credit requisites for each core class depend on the academic program in which you

are enrolled.

At Legacy Online School, to earn your 18-credit diploma, you must enroll in specific

core courses. Students need to acquire four math credits, three science credits, three

social studies credits, and four English credits.

It's crucial to complete as many core class credits as early as possible during your

academic journey. Keep in mind that you need to earn one English credit for each

grade level you complete. Progressing successfully through your mandatory English

classes is of utmost importance. You'll begin with four main courses in English,

followed by American Literature and then British Literature, if necessary.

To meet state requirements, all Standard High School students must complete math

levels up to Algebra II for their high school diploma. This credit requirement is

valuable because most colleges and universities expect students to demonstrate

proficiency in Algebra II.Legacy Online School graduates should also fulfill one full credit of the U.S. History

within their required social studies courses to meet state graduation requirements.

Lastly, students have flexibility in their science courses and can choose science

classes according to their interests to meet the credit requirements. If you plan to

pursue a science-based career, taking more advanced science classes will be

beneficial in preparing you for your post-secondary education.

Honors Diploma Track

At Legacy Online School, students enrolled in the Honors face higher credit

requirements for graduation. This program mandates 24 credits for graduation,

including five math credits, four science credits, five English credits, and four social

studies credits.

It's essential to earn one credit each in English and math for every grade level you

complete because you'll need to accumulate four credits in each subject. In the

Honors program, you will take two survey English courses, followed by American

Literature and then British Literature. The AP program, in addition to these courses,

provides the choice of AP English Literature and Composition or AP English Language

and Composition. For math courses, you can choose from the traditional courses,

along with options like Probability and Statistics, Trigonometry, and AP Calculus AB.

Honors and AP students are required to earn at least four social studies credits.

Within these credits, one full credit of U.S. History and one full credit of World History

are necessary for Honors students. AP students must also include Government and

Economics in their course selections to graduate. Similar to the Standard program,

students in the Honors and AP programs have the flexibility to choose from a variety

of core science classes to fulfill their three required credits. However, if you plan to

pursue a science-based career after high school, challenging yourself with advanced

science courses such as Physics is highly recommended.

Elective Classes

At Legacy Online School, elective courses encompass any classes outside the core

subject areas. To fulfill the minimum state graduation requirements, all students,

regardless of their program, must complete a semester of health, a semester of

physical education, and a full grade-level fine arts class.

For Standard students, a total of four elective credits are necessary. Two of these

credits are fulfilled through the mandatory electives mentioned earlier, while the

remaining two can be selected based on your personal interests. Elective courses

provide an excellent opportunity to delve into subjects that intrigue you or broaden

your knowledge by exploring entirely new topics. Honors and AP students, on the other hand, must earn a total of six elective credits. In

addition to the health, physical education, and fine arts credits, Honors and AP

students must complete four additional credits in required international language

courses.

Grade Requirements

At Legacy Online School, students enrolled in the Standard, Honors, or Accelerated

are required to meet specific grade criteria to earn class credit. It is essential for every

student to achieve a minimum average score of 60% or higher in their courses. Within

each class, students must take a final exam and pass it with an average score of 60%

or better. In addition to their overall class score and the passing grade on the final

exam, all essays and writing projects should also attain the required 60% or higher

average.

Our students regularly meet these expectations, thanks to the opportunity to use

notes during exams and have two chances to retake them. Furthermore, they can

revise and resubmit their essays, which contributes to their success in meeting these

grade requirements.
