At Legacy Online School, we believe that homework plays a valuable role in reinforcing

classroom learning, developing essential study skills, and fostering independent thinking.

Our homework policy is designed to strike a balance between academic growth and the

well-being of our students. Here are the key aspects of our homework policy:

Purpose of Homework:

Homework is assigned with the aim of reinforcing concepts taught in class, providing

students with additional practice, and promoting critical thinking and problem-solving

skills. It is intended to complement classroom instruction and deepen students'

understanding of the subject matter.

Self-Paced Students:

Self-paced students are expected to complete tasks assigned in Buzz, our online

learning platform, based on specified deadlines. This method allows for individualized

learning, giving students the flexibility to progress at their own pace while adhering to

established timelines. It is crucial for self-paced students to manage their time effectively

and submit assignments in accordance with the provided deadlines.

*Discussion-based assignments may be overlooked, but in case they are required, the

teacher will contact the student with detailed instructions.

Group Learning Students:

For students who prefer collaborative and group learning experiences, tasks will be assigned by the teacher. These assignments are intended to be completed as a group,

encouraging teamwork, communication, and shared responsibility. The group dynamic

fosters a supportive learning environment, where students can benefit from diverse

perspectives and collaborative problem-solving.

Elementary school students will typically have around 2-3 hours of homework per week,

allowing them to complete their assignments within that timeframe. Middle school

students may expect to spend approximately 3-4 hours per week on homework. High

school students can anticipate dedicating about 4-6 hours per week to complete their

assignments. These estimations provide students with adequate time to balance their

academic responsibilities with other activities and interests.

*The workload may vary from week to week based on the specific tasks and individual

pace.

In-Class Completion:

Recognizing the importance of a balanced workload, Legacy Online School places

emphasis on completing tasks during class time whenever possible. This approach

minimizes the need for excessive homework outside of school hours. Our teachers are

committed to optimizing class time for effective learning, allowing students to consolidate

their understanding and seek immediate clarification on concepts.

Flexibility and Additional Tasks:

Understanding that each student's learning journey is unique, we acknowledge the need

for flexibility. Students, whether self-paced or engaged in group learning, have the option

to request additional tasks from their teachers if they desire more challenges or wish to

explore specific topics in greater depth.

Homework Types:

Homework assignments may come in various forms, such as reading assignments,

problem-solving exercises, written essays, research projects, or online activities. These

assignments are carefully chosen to align with the learning objectives and curriculum

standards of each grade level.

Homework Support:

We understand that students may require additional support to complete their homework

successfully. Teachers are available during designated office hours to answer questions

and provide clarification. Between the hours of 8 AM EST and 3 PM EST, students can

seek additional support for their homework by reaching out to

teachers@legacyonlineschool.com. Additionally, students can access online resourcesand reference materials in Buzz to assist them with their homework.

Homework Assessment and Feedback:

Homework is considered a valuable part of the learning process, and teachers may

provide feedback to students to guide their progress. Constructive feedback helps

students identify areas for improvement and reinforces their learning journey.

At Legacy Online School, the number of hours students are expected to dedicate to their

studies varies depending on their enrollment status (full-time or part-time) and their grade

level.

Full-Time Students:

Full-time students are enrolled in 6 courses.

Elementary School: 12 hours per week of class time.

Middle School: 15 hours per week of class time.

High School: 20 hours per week of class time.

In addition to class time, students may have homework and assignments to complete

outside of these hours.

Part-Time Students:

Part-time students are enrolled in 3 courses.

Elementary School: 6 hours per week of class time.

Middle School: 8 hours per week of class time.

High School: 10 hours per week of class time.

Part-time students also may have homework and assignments to complete outside of

class time.

If you are enrolled as a self-paced student at Legacy Online School, please note the

following guidelines for your coursework:

Individual Work Focus: As a self-paced student, your coursework involves completing

tasks, assignments, and tests independently. You can disregard discussion-based

assessments and collaborative work, as these typically involve peers in a classroom

setting.

Emphasis on Graded Work: Pay particular attention to completing gradable assignments

such as tests and quizzes following each module. These assessments are crucial for

tracking your progress and understanding of the material.

These guidelines ensure that you can effectively manage your studies and focus on

achieving your academic goals independently. If you have any questions or need further

clarification, feel free to reach out to your Learning Support Specialist for assistance.
